Installation

Step 1: Excavation & Grading for your Artificial Grass Installation

We excavate out between 2″-5″ of your soil. If the soil drains easily we will excavate about 3″. If the soil is dense, heavy or has a high clay content, we will excavate 3″-5″. We dig deeper where the soil is heavy and dense to improve your drainage.
We then grade your soil so it drains well.

Step 2: Soil Stabilizing Materials for your Synthetic Grass Installation

Our installers lay down a porous soil stabilizing material on top of the area we have excavated. The purpose of installing soil stabilizing material is to stop the natural soil mixing with the base rock. This also stops insects and weeds, etc. coming up through the lawn installation. These fabrics are very important for the long term stability of your overall project.

Step 3: Installing Base Rock & Additional Fines for Artificial Turf Installation

We spread about 2″-3″ of the class II base rock on top of the soil stabilizing material, then we compact the base to 90% – 95% proctor.

To achieve a natural “crowned” look, we bring in additional fine base material and shape it appropriately. We also compact these “fine” materials.

Step 4: Installing and Seaming for Synthetic Turf Installation

We cut the artificial grass so it fits perfectly, then brush the blades up so it is easier to infill. This process is called fibrillation. We lay down the synthetic grass so the pre-cut pieces join together and the grass is all facing the same direction.

Where two pieces of grass meet you get a seam. Seaming materials are placed under the grass where it joins together. Seaming material stops weeds from coming up between the join lines of the synthetic grass and is also important for giving more strength and stability to the seams.

Step 5: Securing the Synthetic Grass in Position

We generally use nails to secure the grass in position. We prefer to use nails in our lawn installations as adhesives can sometimes pose problems with certain weather conditions. We install 4″ nails every 6″ around the perimeter and along the seams in our installations.

Step 6: Infilling the Artificial Grass System

Once the artificial grass is secured in position, we use a seed spreader to install the infill. We use a quartz granule or resin coated sand infill, because they are anti-microbial, have no odor, are kid and pet safe, don’t hold water and don’t release heavy metal into the soil. They can also be recycled.

Step 7: Fibrillate Your Artificial Turf

We brush up the blades into position using a power brush and special artificial grass rake. We ensure that the infill has been distributed evenly across the installation. Any final adjustments that need to be made to the installation are done at this point.

Step 8: Inspect and Enjoy your New Artificial Grass

Our expert crew has completed your installation. Once you have inspected it and you are happy with the results, all you need to do is to enjoy your low maintenance, environmentally friendly grass for many years into the future.
